SINGAPORE – Waller Granada hit the go-ahead basket to lift Bicol over Manila in a thrilling 69-68 victory in the Gilas Basketball 2017 Inter-Town Tournament at West Spring Secondary School sponsored by GB Sports LLP and Sneakers Club.
With 1 minute remaining in the ball game, Manila is leading by four points. Waller Granada made a lay up to trim down the lead to 2 points. With the miss opportunity by Manila on the other end, Bicol had a chance to tie or regain the lead.
Waller Granada make the go- ahead three-point shot and give Bicol a 1-point lead with 17 seconds left in the ball game.
Manila had a chance to win this ball game, as Paul Bryan Yun was fouled and sent to the free throw line but he missed both shot.
Coming off the bench Granada came up with a double-double of 19 points on 8 of 18 shooting, grabbed 18 rebounds and dished out three assists.
Bhart Castro had 14 points, 6 rebounds and three assists while Erwin Saysay added 8 points and 3 boards for Bicol, who won their third game in 4 outings and improved to 3-1 in win-loss card.
Bicol dominated the inside game as they outscored Manila, 46-26 in points inside the paint. They also outscored Manila in fast break points, 20-16.
Paul Bryan Yun led Manila with a triple-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists.
Rex Villasin came up with a game-high 21 points and 15 rebounds while Alison Altea chipped in 18 points on 4 of 8 shooting from beyond the arc for Manila, who absorbed their third in loss and fall to 1-3 in win-loss card.
