U6 Cup Season 4 (Div 1) – Finals Preview

This coming Sunday will be the battle of the Big Boys for the Division 1 Finals. Several factors will be critical for this championship as both teams fully deserve to be in the Top 2 after the grueling playoff stages. With one team presenting their thirst after several tries for the Cup, while the other team banking on their mix of youth and veterans. Below will be the factors that will bring one team to their first ever Championship for Gilas Basketball U6.

Youth versus Experience
With both teams relaying on these contrasting factors, Tsoleyt’s strength depend mostly from leading scorer John Caraig, JC Tengco and local player Yong An. This triumvirate is just as explosive as any other match up you can get so far. But as they say the vulnerability of your youth will be substantial experience. And with experience NE Patriots is an area they are certainly not lacking with Marcel Maon, Ralph Christian Mangon and Marco Morales will be highly depended again by their team. These 3 are as composed and will be the lifeblood for their team.

Rebounding
As the Coach Popovich of the San Antonio Spurs will say “Rebounding will give you Rings”. This might be the deciding factor as who will win the Championship. With the NE Patriots leading the league in rebounding, they sure will be ready for the battle inside the paint. As for Tsoleyt, their Run and Gun game will rely on how they can control the boards. So far on all Tsoleyts wins they won ‘the battle of the boards’: their lone defeat in this category was unfortunately against NE Patriots in a close one. Bong Reyes, Ronnel Suresca and Dennis Argana should be again tested against the Patriots vaunted frontline.

Inside against Outside
Basically whoever will click will bring that momentum along the way. Different styles makes for an interesting matchup. For Tsoleyt, whenever they are on fire from the outside they are simply unstoppable as they can break necks on blinding pace with their torrid outside shooting ala Golden State Warriors. But for the Patriots this goes hand in hand with their experience. They will try to milk the clock and pound their way inside to force Tsoleyt less possession and control the tempo in that way. Their bullish inside play will again be the centerpiece of their attack.

Fastbreak points
This will be the intangible that will be a factor for this game. With the Patriots’ Ralph Christian Mangon again orchestrating the pace with his Lebron James like court awareness, he will spear head the attack for easy uncontested points. For Tsoleyt this will be the motivation for their defense. As they defend well they will surely push the ball to the hilt and expose the Patriots backcourt for easy baskets. Joven Porcal will be the Patriots main problem as he will surely control the tempo and will try to maximize his team’s full potential.

Overall, it will be a tough match up for both teams. But it will boil down to whoever team will make an adjustment and HEART will always be a factor. It will be a matter of who wants more and who will fight for 50/50 balls and hustle their way through. Congratulations and goodluck for both teams. You have made this far but unfortunately there can only be one CHAMP. Play the game the right way and in the true spirit sportsmanship “Play the GILAS way”.
