SINGAPORE – Philippians came up with a strong third quarter to beat the Quick Strike Asia, 79-73, in Gilas Basketball 2017 Republika Cup at Yusof Ishak Secondary School.
Andy De Leon and Nolte Bombay led the way for Philippians, which trailed by 3 entering the third but rallied to take their fifth straight win.
De Leon posted a triple-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 29 minutes of action.
Orland Flores had a team-high 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists while Nolte Bombay came off the bench to deliver a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds for Philippians, who finished the Positioning round round with 5-0 win-loss record.
Philippians big advantage in this game is their scoring inside the shaded area as they outscored Quick Strike Asia, 54-34, in points inside the paint. They also shared the basketball better registering 30 assists in their 36 made field goals.
Gilbert De Vera led Quick Strike Asia with a game-high 31 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists.
Richard Dela Cruz added 10 points, 6 boards and 4 assists while Dom Garo chipped-in 10 markers and 4 rebounds for Quick Strike Asia, who absorbed their fourth straight loss and finished the Positioning round with a 1-4 win-loss record.
