Strong start powers Renegades to victory over Braders behind Vincent Guzman’s brilliance

SINGAPORE – Renegades unleashed a balanced attack along with a stifling defense to edge undermanned Braders, 86-61, in Gilas Basketball 2017 SBP Cup at West Spring Secondary School sponsored by GB Sports LLP and Sneakers Club.

Vincent Guzman showed the way for Renegades, who held Braders scoreless for almost four minutes in the opening quarter and took a 18-9 lead at the end of the period.

Guzman wound up with a game-high 26 points on 13 of 22 shooting, pulled down 7 boards and dished out 5 assists.

Ving Saliendra, John Alvarez, Henry and Tyrel Ruñez all scored 12 points apiece for Renegades, who won their fourth straight game and finished the positioning round with 4-1 win-loss record.

Renegades took advantage on their quickness as they outscored Braders in fast break points, 56-18. They also dominated the inside game, scoring 64 points inside the paint compared to 46 points by Braders.

Darwin Lorzano led Braders with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Jhay Go scored 18 points and pulled down 8 board while Paul Vincent Deang added 17 markers and 6 rebounds for Braders, who finished the positioning round with 1-4 win-loss record.

The Lutong Pinoy Game MVP is Vincent Guzman.
