Stagmont ride scorching start to take down Lasinggeros behind Filmore Cortes Jr. solid performance

SINGAPORE – Stagmont rode a scorching start to take down the Lasinggeros, 85-60, in Gilas Basketball 2017 SBP Cup at West Spring Secondary School sponsored by GB Sports LLP and Sneakers Club.

Filmore Cortes Jr. led the scorching first quarter attack of Stagmont. They manhadled Lasinggeros, 25-6 in the first period and they never gave Lasinggeros a chance to make a come back.

Cortes wound up with a game-high 21 points on 10 of 14 shooting, pulled down 4 boards and issued 3 assists.

Coming off the bench Jonathan Gupana delivers 15 points and 3 rebounds in 18 minutes of play while Inan Aviso added 10 points, 4 boards and 3 dimes for Stagmont, who won their third straight game and finished the positioning round with 3-2 win-loss record.

Stagmont capitalized on the 17 miscues committed by Lasinggeros and convert it to 19 turnover points. They also held Lasinggeros to 36 percent shooting form the field while they registered an 54 percent shooting.

Ariel Sta Ana led the way for Lasinggeros with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Nelson Santos came up with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists while Ericson Mercado chipped-in 11 markers, 4 boards, 3 assists and 2 steals for Lasinggeros, who absorbed their fourth loss in 5 games and dropped to 1-4 in win-loss card.
