Ruel Patron takes over down the stretch as West Coast rally past struggling Ocipala

SINGAPORE – Ruel Patron led a late surge to lift West Coast from an early fourth quarter deficit and hang on to beat Ocipala, 42-39, in Gilas Basketball 2017 Republika Cup at Yusof Ishak Secondary School.

West Coast was trailing by 3-points entering the final frame. They made a huge 11-2 to run to build an 8 points lead near the halfway point of the fourth. They completed the come back and hold off Ocipala for their first win.

Patron finished the game with a game-high 19 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Phillip Jay Del Rosario added 8 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists while fellow starter Arturo Bantillo chipped-in 8 markers and 4 assists for West Coasts, who won their first game and finished the positioning round with 1-4 win-loss record.

West Coasts pesky defense cause Ocipala to commit 19 huge turnovers that were capitalized to 19 points. They also held Ocipala to shoot poorly from the field with 36 percent shooting.

Charles Onn Chia Boon led Ocipala with 13 points and 4 rebounds.

Lai Tian Song had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, while Nick Eow Kok Tiong added 5 markers and 2 assists for Ocipala, who loss their second game in 4 outings.

The Lutong Pinoy Game MVP is Ruel Patron.
