Philippians rides first half surge to smother Crime Pakners as they stretch unbeaten streak to four behind Aljon Felix Calalo II steady plays

SINGAPORE – Philippians used a scintillating first half surge to beat Crime Pakners, 64-38, to remain unscathed in Gilas Basketball 2017 Republika Cup at Yusof Ishak Secondary School.

Philippians continued their winning ways as they stayed unbeaten in four games. They did it after a 40-19 first half.

Aljon Felix Calalo II led the way for the Philippians as he finished with 13 points and 6 rebounds in 27 minutes of action.

Jonathan Gupana had 12 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists while Archie Vasquez came off the bench to deliver 10 markers, 3 boards and 2 assists for Philippians, who improved to 4-0 in win-loss card.

Philippians defense held Crime Pakners to shoot poorly from the field registering 30 percent shooting compared to their 50 percent shooting. Their dominance inside the paint was a key in this game as they outscored Crime Pakners, 46-28, in points inside the shaded area.

Norman Gamao led Crime Pakners with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists.

Carlo Apil added 6 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while Raymond Campanila chipped-in 6 markers and 3 assists for Crime Pakners, who suffered their second loss and finished the Positioning Round with 3-2 win-loss record.
