Kirby Chan shine as St. Vincent edge Cebu Gems for fifth straight victory

SINGAPORE – Kirby Chan came up with a fine performance to lift the St. Vincent to a 60-56 victory over Cebu Gems in Gilas Basketball 2017 SBP Cup at West Spring Secondary School sponsored by GB Sports LLP and Sneakers Club.

St. Vincent took control early and finished the first quarter leading by 5, 18-13. But Cebu Gems rallied back in the second period to bring down the lead to 3 points.

In the second half, St. Vincent answered all the runs made by Cebu Gems and never let them make a come back.

Chan came up with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Marvin Hernandez had 11 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while Jun Hilario came off the bench to deliver 9 points, 4 rebounds and a block for St. Vincent, who won their fifth straight game and improved to 5-0 in win-loss card.

St. Vincent second stringers outscored Cebu Gems’ bench, 39-13. They also registered a 76 percent shooting from the free-throw line compared to 38 percent shooting of Cebu Gems.

Jonash Quingco led Cebu Gems with a double-double of 17 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.

Paolo Pusod added 14 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists while Julius Emoylan scored 7 points and pulled down 3 rebounds for Cebu Gems, who absorbed their second straight loss and dropped to 2-2 in win-loss column.

The Lutong Pinoy Game MVP is Kirby Chan.
