SINGAPORE – Kirby Chan took charge early and hit some big endgame baskets as Batangas Pride recovered from blowing a double digit lead to hold off Olongapo Pure Playaz, 69-68, in the Gilas Basketball 2017 Inter-Town Tournament at West Spring Secondary School sponsored by GB Sports LLP and Sneakers Club.
Batangas Pride took control early as they established an 13-point lead at the end of the first half.
Olongapo Pure Playaz made a huge fourth quarter run to bring down the lead to 3-points with 2 minutes remaining in the ball game.
Vincent Gonzales made a clutch triple to give Olongapo Pure Playaz a 1-point lead with 19 seconds left. On the other end Kirby Chan was fouled and was a given a 2 free throw that he both converted to give Batangas Pride a 1-point lead, 69-68.
Chan finished the game with a team-high 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Chris Capiral posted a double-double.of 11 points and 12 rebounds while Aris Narciso added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Batangas, who won their second game in 3 outings and improved to 2-1 win-loss card.
Batangas Pride doubled the output of Olongapo Pure Playaz in points inside the paint, 40-20. They also outscored Olongapo Pure Playaz in fast break points, 24-16.
Dmark De Leon led Olongapo Pure Playaz a game-high 26 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 blocks.
Allen Reyes came off the bench to deliver 11 points, 2 boards and 4 assists while Vijayaragavan Vijay chipped-in 8 markers, 9 rebounds and 7 blocks for Olongapo Pure Playaz, who absorbed their 4 straight loss and fall to 0-4 win-loss card.
