Kapatiran beat Solidrock to end four-game slide behind Eddel Gauten double-double performance

SINGAPORE – Kapatiran snapped a four-game skid and sent the Solidrock to their fourth straight loss, 48-38, in Gilas Basketball 2017 Republika Cup at Yusof Ishak Secondary School.

Eddel Gauten showed the way for Kapatiran, who overpowered Solidrock 23-7 in the first quarter and cruised to their first win.

Gauten finished the game with 14 points on 6 of 10 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds, dished out 5 assists and registered 2 steals.

Greg Cañeda came up with 12 points, 9 boards and 4 assists while fellow starter Christian Phillip Mejos added 8 markers and 3 rebounds for Kapatiran, who notched their first win and finished the Positioning round with 1-4 win-loss record.

Kapatiran used their quickness to their advantage as they outscored Solidrock, 20-2, in fast break points. Their defense also held Solidrock to shoot 28 percent from the field while they registered 40 percent shooting.

Jaywheel Zapanta led Solidrock with 10 points and 2 rebounds in 29 minutes of action.

Paul Vince Deang had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists while Mark Jem Ombac and Ver Michael Reyes both scored 6 points apiece for Solidrock, who suffered their fourth straight loss and dropped to 0-4 in win-loss card.
